More on Jamie and Tran

So - I want to make sure that Jamie and Tran get top billing at least for a while - so even though I posted about the new house after I posted about them I want you to jump to their post. It is right under the new house one - two down from here.

It is so wonderful what they have done - coming out in High School and finding that they love each other after being best friends almost all their lives. How great is that? It is terrific and it is wonderful.

It is hard for gay people to go to high school - everything - every movie, every concert, every dance - is all about straight people. Gay people get very depressed in high school - it is a major problem - so big that New York City has a high school just for gay people who were discriminated against in high school. Here is the website for the Harvy Milk School - if you don't know about it you should - and you should be working like crazy to make sure that all gay teens in your community are safe in school.

I can't tell you enough about what it is like - just think about it - nothing we see in high school, nothing we hear about in class or in the lunchroom or in the locker room or in the hallways - nothing makes us feel welcome or at home. None of it is about us unless it is nasty jokes or put downs or insults - "oh, that is so gay!!" is the most common insult and derrogatory comment in high schools today.

Boys in the locker room talk about the girls they either slept with or lie about the girls they slept with - but can you imagine me or any boy in the locker room talking about the cute boy they are dating. Come on - give me a break.

So Jamie and Tran are heros - they are heros for all of us. They love each other and are happy to say it out loud. They are our future - all of us.

SL is international and my EU friends tell me that in the EU (lots of it anyway) things are different - but I can tell you from my own experience that being gay in high school in the US - no matter where - even in NYC or San Francisco - bites.

Yay for Jamie and Tran - we love you guys to bits. You Rock bigtime. You are the best. You are our future. Go go go Jamie and Tran - you rule.
